The Metal Gear franchise began in 1987 with the release of the original Metal Gear for the MSX2 computer standard. It is considered to be the first ever action adventure stealth game. In total there have been 26 Metal Gear games, including Metal Gear Solid on the Playstation in 1998, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel in 2000, Metal Gear Acid in 2004, and the latest at the time of writing being Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
